China's state-backed Global Times has called for an extension of the current 90-day tariff truce with the U.S., suggesting that the period is too short to achieve meaningful progress.
The truce, established during trade talks in Geneva, reduced U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods from 145% to 30% and China's tariffs on U.S. goods from 125% to 10%.
China also agreed to pause non-tariff countermeasures, such as halting the addition of U.S. companies to restrictive trade lists and lifting certain export controls.
Analysts indicate that China may prefer to retain flexibility in negotiations and might only partially fulfill its pledges, especially concerning non-tariff barriers.
