• Trump Signed orders imposing 25% tariffs on imported medium- & heavy-duty trucks/parts effective November 1, 2025. Vehicles compliant with United States‑Mexico‑Canada Agreement (USMCA) may face duties only on non‑U.S. content.
• The proclamation also includes a “tariff offset” program: U.S. manufacturers assembling MHDVs domestically can apply for credits equal to 3.75% of their vehicle value from 2025 through 2030—aimed at bolstering U.S. production.
Why this matters
For importers: heavy trucks, chassis, engines and related components now face sharply higher duties. Buses, while lower duty, still require recalibration of sourcing strategy. Firms relying on cross‑border supply chains (especially Canada, Mexico) should review USMCA content eligibility.
